Thank you for your valuable insights. I appreciate your help. I’ve only just discovered your content today. This is the third video I’ve listened to. I’m feeling so much better. I was discarded by my narc bf 10 days ago after two and a half years, out of the blue. Though he has never been mean or cruel to me outwardly he was never able to emotionally connect. The relationship was so unfulfilling after a while. It had me feeling so empty when I wasn’t with him. He was so attentive, funny and fun most of the time. I realize he wasn’t genuine. Looking back I now see the signs that were staring me in the face. I have to take ownership for that part but I’m starting to know I shouldn’t take it personally. I loved with my whole heart - he wasn’t capable of reciprocating. The sex was robotic because there wasn’t an emotional connection on his part. I’m curious if you have any insight into how to better vet someone in the early stages of dating someone to recognize the signs of a narcissistic personality. Thanks again.

Difficult to answer this question because there were so many times/things that were so “not right”. One was … we had just started living together and he started screaming at me for no reason at all. This was the first time he had gotten really nasty with me. I remember feeling shocked! I said “ I can’t believe you are treating me like this.” And his response was “oh shut up!” Up until this point it was still all love-bombing, etc. After I got him to calm down (it was strange…he even seemed confused about his own behavior) I looked at him and said “don’t you love me at all?” And he looked at me all exasperated and said “I don’t think I would even know what that is”! This comment scared me because it felt very truthful. At this point I knew I had made a big mistake moving in with him, but I had taken such a stand about being with him to virtually everyone I knew…I felt trapped. I had moved out of my parents house to live with him and didn’t see how I could tell them I wanted to come home…because I didn’t. They are both narcissists too. It was awful. I remember the feeling well.

Four and a half years ago, I realized all I was to my sister was a thing to be abused. I am everything she wishes she could be - intelligent, creative, driven, etc. I was her narcissistic target. When I went into therapy for the neglect and abuse all of my siblings and I endured, she ridiculed me, saying that I'm crazy. She even ridiculed the fact that I took an antidepressant. Every interaction was the same - she would call me names, put me down, say nasty lies about me she claimed to hear from someone in an effort to get a rise out of me. Sixty-three years I put up with it until 2019, when I told her I was done with it and wanted her to leave me alone. I had to address the Facebook smear campaign with legal action, but the peace and quiet these last 4 1/2 years has been worth it. She has tried to get back into my life, but I just ignore her efforts. My mental health is worth.

I have listened to this so many times because it finally provides an understanding of the total chaos and confusion. Plus jt explains the lack of substance I experienced constantly. QUESTION for LS - Does the Narcissist know they are mimicking? Do they know they are faking it all or is it more like they don’t know because they have never been any other way.

A mix of both, it seems; some conscious superficial imitation at times but leaning more often to this just being how it is.

I need to watch this 100 times! To get it through my thick head and stop being so sad about my divorce! We divorced 4 years ago and I’ve had a hard time letting it go! And I also can’t make sense of why because I KNOW of all of the horrible things about him and the relationship…it’s really done a mind fuk on me and I can clearly see it all comes from my childhood and even though I KNOW this! It doesn’t help to heal and resolve my pain and anger over this divorce 🙄

This is part of a point I convey to other victims. You are conned to fall in love with YOURSELF mirrored back to you. This knowledge can be used for healing. Any positive feelings you may have (or have had) for the narcissist are actually positive feelings for yourself. All of the power/praise/credit that you have given to the narcissist was actually stolen or conned from you. You are the one who earned it. That esteem belongs to you, and once you realize it, your healing journey will be GREATLY nurtured. The esteem was yours all along and you just didn't know it.

Thank you for your work. I am 50 years old and am just realizing why i am so confused and afraid in general. I grew up in an incredibly disfuntional, cruel, house of mirrors. I then went into the world, unhealed, and found more bewildering painful relationships. I can finally, finally, have a lense to view my extremely traumatized mother and now, myself. Finally, clarity. It is so sad; full of so much sorrow, but the truth is freeing and healing. Thank you. You are saving my life.

@@katherineheller4038 I'm 60. I found The Little Shaman about 2 and 1/2 years ago. I often struggle with feeling that it's too late or that I wasted too much time on the narcissist I was married to. I also grew up much like you. It's not too late for us. Every minute that we have left will be sweeter because we are aware now. Even when it hurts. We aren't blind. We are deluded any longer. We are not responsible for the behavior of people who abuse us. We have learned that lesson in this life, we never have to repeat it again. In this life or any other. Peace and healing to you. 🕊️

The bottom line is that my ex was a textbook pathological narcissist. This also why being in a relationship with a narcissist seems so perfect--they are chameleons. They are nothings in reality. They are something that needs to be avoided.

This is spot on as usual. There is no substance AT ALL and it really is obvious. The idealized version of yourself that they provided is really what you’re missing and grieving and once you truly face how fake that was as well you can move forward and heal the wounded parts of yourself that were intoxicated by that. I personally don’t miss the drama, chaos, nasty person or the fake person who was only mimicking my own identity.
